ABSTRACT
The technology of information keep growing hence the privacy and security of the information shared has become a main concern in recent years. Internet is the most popular transmission channel for sending and receiving information. The Internet alone is vulnerable so a secured transmission of sensitive information is needed to avoid from being exploited by attackers and eavesdroppers. Steganography is a technique to conceal a message in a cover medium so only the sender and intended receiver know the secret message. The technique that will be studied in this paper is DNA steganography. The algorithm will use the basic concepts and properties of the DNA and to implement it in the system.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
Computational properties on DNA was first performed by Leonard Adleman in 1994, whereas Steganography using DNA was first performed by Carter Bancroft by a double Steganography concealment technique by hiding a secret message encoded in DNA which further concealed into a microdot, which marked the beginning of authentication using genomic steganography. It has been developed based on background that most of the present crypto systems rely on factorization problems, so they are theoretically subject to attack by quantum computers. DNA based Steganography has an additional security of biological computation. Breaking DNA based Steganography is highly resistant to quantum computers as it is based on biochemical problem
PROBLEM STATEMENT
The art of information hiding has being gaining a lot of attention as the security of information has become a big concern nowadays. People keep sharing sensitive information via internet which is very vulnerable to many attacks. To satisfy the need for privacy on internet many steganography techniques has been used such as LSB, DCT and Egypt. Each has their own pros and cons like LSB is simple to implement but easy to detect. DCT is a more complex mathematical function to perform on an image but more computationally exhaustive. Egypt is the most computationally complex of the algorithms. In this paper, the DNA steganography algorithm will be used to hide information securely using basic concepts and properties of the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA).
